Val Thorens, Europe's highest ski resort

Perched at 2,300 metres, Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe, with its own ski area stretching from 1,800 to 3,230 metres, guaranteeing reliable snow cover from the beginning to the end of the season.

The resort is part of the Three Valleys, linked to Courchevel and Méribel with no road transfer needed for a skier; the whole area totals 600 kilometres of interconnected runs, the largest linked ski area in the world.

Every season, Val Thorens hosts FIS Ski Cross World Cup events as well as a Freeride World Tour stop, and traditionally marks the opening and closing of the ski season in the Three Valleys, thanks to an altitude that guarantees early and late snow.

Beyond skiing, the resort offers plenty of activities, mountain restaurants, an aquatic centre and evening entertainment, making it popular with groups of friends and families looking for a lively atmosphere.

The resort is largely pedestrianised: once there, you mostly get around on foot or on skis, and the chauffeur steps in for arrival, departure and trips to the other resorts.

Val Thorens from Courchevel: by piste or by road

For a confident skier, Val Thorens can be reached from Courchevel by crossing Méribel through the ski area, a great day of skiing from one valley to the next. By car, the route drops down to Moûtiers then climbs the whole Belleville valley up to 2,300 metres, a much longer journey than to Méribel.

A chauffeur really comes into their own on the way back: after a day in Val Thorens, getting back to Courchevel on skis before the lifts close requires plenty of time in hand, and many skiers prefer to return by car, skis in the boot.

The last stretch of road up to the resort zigzags above the tree line, exposed to wind and snow: a vehicle fitted for winter and a driver used to these conditions make all the difference.

For a group combining a day's skiing in Val Thorens with an evening in Courchevel, a chauffeur by the hour avoids juggling lift and shuttle times between the two resorts.

Events and booking in Val Thorens

The resort's calendar is busy: season opening in late November, ski cross World Cup events, the Freeride World Tour in midwinter. These dates draw large crowds and demand for transport soars; booking several weeks ahead remains the best way to secure a vehicle.

For a group of friends enjoying the resort's nightlife, a chauffeur by the hour means returning together to Courchevel whenever you like, without relying on shuttles or hunting for a taxi in the middle of the night at 2,300 metres.

The Sprinter seats up to twelve passengers with their luggage, a practical option for large groups; the V-Class remains the benchmark for a family or four to six friends.

The fare appears directly in the booking module above, based on the route and vehicle chosen.

If you are staying in Val Thorens rather than Courchevel, the transfer from Geneva can also drop you right at your residence, via the Belleville valley from Moûtiers.
