Mid-January · 14 and 16 January 2027
Le Praz hosts a stage of the Ski Mountaineering World Cup, a fast-growing discipline now on the Olympic programme, with two spectacular races: the Sprint and the Vertical Race.
On 14 and 16 January 2027, the world's best ski mountaineers meet in Courchevel Le Praz for two race formats: the Vertical Race, a timed climb straight up the slope, and the Sprint, a shorter and spectacular race combining ascent and descent on skis.
Ski mountaineering, now part of the Olympic programme, has gained visibility in recent seasons: this stage in Courchevel is one of the major events of winter 2026-2027 for fans of this fast-growing discipline.
Unlike classic alpine skiing, ski mountaineering requires athletes to combine climbing on skins and descending on the same course, a physically demanding format that suits spectators who come to watch the competitors' effort up close, as the course is generally easier to follow visually than a classic downhill piste.
The choice of Le Praz for this stage is no accident: this historic village, home of the 1992 Olympic ski jump, has terrain naturally suited to endurance and climbing disciplines, below the more touristy pistes of Courchevel 1850.
As the two days of competition are spaced apart (14 and 16 January), many spectators use the gap to ski on the rest of the Three Valleys area between the two races rather than staying focused on the Le Praz site alone.
