Late December to early January · 27 December 2026 to 2 January 2027
Every year Val Thorens extends the festive season with a week of entertainment, with a programme that peaks on New Year's Eve.
The week between Christmas and New Year's Day is one of the busiest of the season across the Three Valleys, and Val Thorens organises a dedicated programme of entertainment for this period: shows, torchlight descents and fireworks on the evening of 31 December are among the resort's usual highlights at this time.
This week of French school holidays, combined with the festivities, brings very international visitors to all the Three Valleys resorts, with accommodation fully booked several months ahead for this time of year.
As the highest resort in Europe, Val Thorens generally has well-established snow cover at this time, making it a sought-after destination for families and groups who want a New Year's Eve guaranteed to be in the snow, away from the uncertainty that lower-altitude resorts can face.
The week's programme alternates daytime entertainment on the snow front with evening events, gradually building up to New Year's Eve on 31 December, the high point of the period with fireworks over the resort.
After the end-of-year festivities, visitor numbers remain high beyond 2 January, as the first week of the new year naturally extends the school holidays for some French and international visitors.
