For the third edition in a row since the circuit returned in 2025, Val Thorens hosts a stage of the Freeride World Tour, with an impressive drop from a start at 3,105 metres.
The event takes place on an untracked off-piste face, with a start at 3,105 metres and a finish at 2,575 metres, more than 500 metres of vertical drop on an average gradient of 32 degrees, one of the most spectacular playgrounds on the world freeride ski and snowboard circuit.
The Freeride World Tour brings together the world's best freeride skiers and snowboarders, a discipline that rewards the line each competitor chooses as much as their technique, judged live by a panel at the bottom of the face.
Unlike World Cup alpine skiing, freeride is not raced on a marked course identical for everyone: each competitor chooses their own line on the face on the day of the competition, according to the snow conditions, which makes the event unpredictable even for the most knowledgeable spectators.
The return of the Freeride World Tour to Val Thorens in 2025 confirmed the resort as a benchmark venue for the discipline, as it has several off-piste faces with the characteristics the circuit's organisers look for.
The competition site is at high altitude, away from the village: a transfer to the foot of the face generally takes longer than simply reaching Val Thorens's marked pistes.
